Mariusz Gliwinski

Illusion

I regard jewellery not only as adornment, which is of course its basic role. To me, jewellery serves as an international, common language through which I can communicate and express my ideas about esthetics, art, and social issues, such as religion, money, environment. I do not have particular language skills, my English is rather poor, but I am very happy that my designs are understood not only in Europe, but also in China, Africa and America, despite obvious cultural differences. I find my inspiration in my everydys’ life, especially in modern architecture, art, nature, music as well as in current TV news.

I met Mariusz Gliwinski in Gdansk (Poland) when we were jurors for the Amberif Awards. This Polish jeweler uses amber  in almost all his pieces. Amber is a greatly appreciated fossilized resin of high quality in the Baltic. Different colors, shapes and transparencies contribute to each piece which contain within thousands of years of unique history.
