Andrea Wagner at Her Studio in Amsterdam

A few days ago I visited Andrea Wagner at her studio apartment in Amsterdam.

Brooch: Untitled 2006
Mixed media, a.o. bone china porcelain
From The architect who faced his jardin interieur, 2006

Brooch: Twin Hill Catacombs 2008
Silver, pearls, druse, bone china porcelain, glass granulate, synthetic resin

I have admired her work since I discovered it on the internet and published the first post about it in 2008.  At that time, I could not have imagined sharing some time with her and holding her fantastic jewels in my hands.

She told me about her work from a conceptual standpoint, her motives in making jewelry and starting a new series, and she also showed me her materials (porcelain, glass, felt, silver among others) and explained the techniques she uses.
Brooch – Pendant: Untwisting the Truth 2011
After commenting about her most recent piece made from silver-painted PMC titled “Untwisting the Truth,”, separate from but inspired by her last series titled “Subset Synergism. Tales of Migration,”  she delicately extracted covered jewels, little by little, from a box which she opened to show me.
Brooches from the 2000 – 2002 series “Wolderbliss” and jewels from “The Architect Who Faced His Jardin Intérieur,” a series she finished in 2010 after working for a four-year period, the same period during which she was arranging the functional and warm space where she lives and works.
Fermalls de la sèrie ”Wolderbliss“ del 2000 -2002 i joies de ”The Architect Who Faced His Jardin Intérieur“, una sèrie que va acabar al 2010 després d’haver-hi treballat durant quatre anys, el mateix temps durant el qual va anar arranjant el funcional i càlid espai on viu i treballa.
Andrea Wagner was born in Germany and grew up in Canada. She studied jewelry in Amsterdam where she has lived for seventeen years.

I’m really glad to have met her. Thank you very much Andrea for inviting me to visit your studio and for all the information you gave me.
